Tanya Zack is a South African urban planner and writer whose work explores urban regeneration, migration, informal economies and housing. Her acclaimed book Wake Up, This Is Joburg (Duke University Press, 2022) was longlisted for the 2024 Sunday Times/Exclusive Books Literary Awards. Her professional contributions – such as an inner-city transformation policy and a study on cross-border shopping – are considered ground-breaking. The Chaos Precinct: Johannesburg as a port city is her latest publication.
