Dr Siyakha Mguni is an archaeologist with an MA (Wits) and a PhD (UCT) in rock art studies. He teaches at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town, where he is also a research associate at the Cantre for Curating the Archive. Dr. Mguni has a profound passion for indigenous legacies, particularly the areas of spirituality, language, and folklore as creative forms that stimulated resilience in social worlds from deep antiquity. Dr Mguni has experience in museology, curation and exhibition, cultural tourism, archival and heritage research. He has authored two books, Termites of the Gods: San cosmology in southern African rock art. and Archival theory, chronology and interpretation of rock art in the Western Cape, South Africa. He has written over 18 peer-reviewed articles in accredited journals, and several book chapters. Over the years Dr Mguni has also written pieces for (and himself featured in) diverse public audiences in magazines and other channels including Forbes, The Conversation, Daily Maverick, Sawubona (former SAA inflight magazine), and several newspapers in southern Africa.
