Born in Durban, Roger Lucey began writing and performing songs in the mid-1970s. His first album, The Road Is Much Longer, was banned, and the security police launched a covert operation to silence him. He later worked as a TV journalist, actor, editor, and presenter of an e.TV nightly arts/news programme, and graduated as valedictorian from Duke University’s Graduate School of Liberal Studies. His autobiography, Back in from the Anger (2012), is followed by its sequel, How to Build a House in the Mountains.
