Patrick Watson

Patrick Watson is currently South Africa’s most innovative and versatile landscape designer. To many, he is best known for designing extensive mega-sites such as Sun City or entire Indian Ocean islands, but he is also the creator of exquisite small gardens at private homes, quirky witticisms like ‘27 Boxes’ Park in Melville, or quiet spaces for reflection and contemplation, such as at the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg or the Garden of Hope at St George’s Anglican Church in Parktown. He combines artistic intuition with extensive botanical knowledge and a deep concern for the conservation and restoration of nature. Veld – The gardens and landscapes of Patrick Watson features 23 gardens and landscapes, richly supported by exquisite photographs and specially commissioned artworks.  Veld beautifully showcases the complexity of modern garden design, while also serving as a record of the knowledge, creativity and intuitive powers of a gifted artist who has had a profound influence on his profession.
