Larger than life and iconic South African photographer Obie Oberholzer, former professor of photography at Rhodes University’s Department of Fine Art, is world-renowned for his quirky pictorial books. His photographs and books are informed by his unique journeys through various parts of the African continent. The camera captures in pictures Obie’s reckless, passionate, more-than-slightly-crazy take on the world. The resultant photos are redolent with his signature ‘kak’ and obsessive love for this country, this continent and its place in the world. His latest book, Going Dutch, is a madcap visual adventure through nine South African towns named after Dutch cities – and then through their namesakes in the Netherlands.
