Deon Meyer was born on 4 July 1958 in Paarl. He matriculated in 1976 at the Schoonspruit High School in Klerksdorp. He studied BA English and History at Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education. He later obtained an honours degree at the University of the Free State.
In the 1980s, he worked as a journalist at Die Volksblad and at the University of the Free State’s public relations office.
Meyer also worked at Sanlam as an advertising copy writer and later as their manager of Internal Communications and creative director of Publicity. He left Sanlam to start his own business specialising in the creation and management of virtual communities. He also worked at BMW motorcycles before becoming a full-time author.
Deon’s novels have been translated into more than 25 languages and he has won a haul of international prizes. Skorpio is his 20th book.
