Shubnum Khan

Shubnum Khan is an author and artist based in Durban. Her acclaimed debut novel, Onion Tears (2011), was shortlisted for the Penguin Prize for African Writing and the University of Johannesburg Debut Fiction Prize. Her quirky essay collection, How I Accidentally Became a Global Stock Photo, was published in South Africa and India in 2021. Her writing has also appeared in The New York Times, McSweeney’s, HuffPost, The Oprah Magazine, The Sunday Times and Marie Claire. Her new novel has appeared in South Africa under the title The Lost Love of Akbar Manzil.
