Sean Privett’s passion for mountains and fynbos blossomed during his childhood camping and hiking adventures in the Cape’s remote wilderness. With an MSc in Botany from the University of Cape Town, he co-founded the Grootbos Foundation in 2003 with Michael Lutzeyer, now serving as its Director of Conservation. For 25 years, he’s studied the flora of Grootbos Nature Reserve and adjacent areas, advocating for conservation, environmental education, and community development. Sean contributes to scientific journals, co-authoring a field guide to Grootbos flora. Additionally, he co-authored Grootbos Florilegium, a comprehensive exploration of the region’s botanical wonders. When not botanizing, he enjoys adventure sports and contributes to various conservation organizations
