Kaya Malotana

Kaya Malotana, born in Zwartwater, Lady Frere, rose from being the first black African child to represent Queens College’s 1st Rugby XV to making history as the first Black African to play for the Springboks at the Rugby World Cup in 1999. His rugby journey included stints with SA U19, U21, and Emerging Springboks, as well as provincial teams like Border Bulldogs, Lions, and Cats. After retiring due to injury in 2004, he transitioned to coaching, leading teams such as Lions U21 and Vodacom Cup, and coaching the Women Springboks. Today, he’s a SuperSport isiXhosa commentator, analyst, and motivational speaker, particularly engaging with youth in underserved communities.
