Dr N Jade Gibson (PhD) is an anthropologist, author and visual artist, who is passionate about interdisciplinary work incorporating humanities, art and science. Se has a PhD in Anthropology, University of Cape Town, MA in Visual Anthropology, University College of London, BA Hons Fine Art from Central Saint Martins London, and BSc Hons in Biomedical Science from St Georges Medical School, London. Jade Gibson She has lectured in the UK and SA in areas of art, visual anthropology, film and media, culture and heritage. She has also worked on interdisciplinary university research projects, spanning heritage, cities, arts, dance, African studies, transport, BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China), as well as taking part in community projects on environment and arts across South Africa, Vanuatu (South Pacific) and the UK.. She has been working for a number of years on the international Recentring Afro-Asia: Musical Migrations 700-1500 AD Project under Professor Ari Sitas, currently as a research fellow at Centre for African Studies, UCT. Her prize-listed novel Glowfly Dance (Penguin Random House, Southern Africa only), a personal true story of a young girl’s journey to womanhood, as a child witness across three continents to domestic violence and intimate partner femicide, is certified by the South African Department of Education as useful for education on domestic violence. Dr Gibson has spoken widely on the themes of Glowfly Dance in relation to domestic violence as a complex form of structural violence.
