Marita van der Vyver published three novels for adolescents before her first adult novel, Griet skryf ‘n sprokie, became a bestseller, winning the MNet, Eugène Marais and ATKV Prizes in 1992. Since then she has been a fulltime writer of fiction for readers of all ages. She has won several awards and has been translated into more than ten languages.
In 2021 she released A long letter to my daughter, a youth memoir. It is the heart-warming letter from an Afrikaans mother to her French-speaking daughter about growing up in apartheid South Africa in the 1960s and 1970s.
