 MIKE VAN GRAAN

Mike van GraanMIKE VAN GRAAN is an award-winning Cape Town playwright/producer and a leading arts activist.

Since graduating with a BA Hons in Drama from UCT, he has held many positions in the arts and culture sector on a broad range of committees and arts groups, including the Congress of South African Writers, the Theatre Action Group, the Community Arts Project, the Curriculum Development Project, the Performing Arts Network, the National Arts Coalition, Network for Arts & Culture S Africa and the International Network for Cultural Diversity.  He was also Special Adviser to the first Minister of Arts & Culture after the 1994 election, Dr Ben Ngubane. 

Mike has written ten plays, most recently Green Man Flashing, Hostile Takeover, Mixed Metaphors, Two to Tango and Some Mothers’ Sons, and is busy on four more commissions. He has won the Fleur du Cap Award for Best Indigenous Script, the Molteno Silver Medal, the Jury Award and the Arts & Culture Trust Arts Journalist of the Year prize.  In 1997 the Mail & Guardian listed him among the Top 100 South Africans, and in August 2006 Insig featured him as one of the top ten most influential people in the arts on its list of the 50 most influential people in S Africa.

His company, Article 27 Arts & Culture Consultants, currently offers services in arts and culture, event management, policy research and development, and arts admin training.
