LIZ CALDER
LIZ
CALDER is the founding and publishing director of Bloomsbury Publishing, the
iconic British publisher of distinguished writers ranging from Nobel
Prize winner Nadine Gordimer to Booker Prize winners Salman Rushdie,
Anita Brookner, Michael Ondaatje and Margaret Atwood – and not least,
the Harry Potter books.
Born in London, educated in New Zealand and with a BA from
Canterbury University, she worked as a teacher and in Brazil before
moving into the publishing world, where she worked for Victor Gollancz
and Jonathan Cape before founding Bloomsbury.
She has been a member of the British Arts Council Literature Panel and
Chairwoman of the Royal Court Theatre. She is married to Louis Baum and together
they founded the Parati
International Literary Festival in Brazil, now in its fifth year.
