LEBO MASHILE

Lebo MashileLEBO MASHILE is a young South African poet, actress (Hotel Rwanda), life skills facilitator and TV series executive producer and presenter (L’Attitude on SABC 1).

In 2003, she co-founded the Feela Sistah Spoken Word Collective, the first poetry collective of its kind in South Africa.

She has performed at many important events locally, including Thabo Mbeki’s Presidential Inauguration, and internationally in Jamaica, Cuba, Switzerland, Austria, England and the Yarri Yarri Phambari Writers’ Conference in New York.

Her first volume of poetry, In a Ribbon of Rhythm, won the Noma Award for Publishing in Africa for 2006, and she recently produced and recorded Lebo Mashile Live! a musical mix of her poetry with hip-hop and R&B, recorded live with a 9-piece band. Cosmopolitan nominated her one of South Africa’s Awesome Women of 2005.
