Christopher
Duigan of Music Revival has moved his usual Autumn
Classical Music Festival
in Franschhoek forward two weeks to coincide with the Literary
Festival, providing a selection of classical music between the literary
events.
The concerts feature a group of dedicated classical musicians who
perform regularly together under the Music Revival banner.
They are
pianist Christopher Duigan and Russian virtuosi Boris Kerimov and Elena
Kerimova (cello and violin), who together form the Kerimov
Trio,
and Federico Freschi (baritone). Guest artists this
year include Zanne
Stapelberg (soprano) and James Grace (guitar).
The programmes feature:
- Edvard Grieg’s violin and cello sonatas, Lyric
Pieces
and excerpts from incidental music to Henrik Ibsen’s Peer Gynt,
presented with readings of poetry by Ibsen
- A chamber music programme of music for piano
trio by
Beethoven, Schumann, Piazzolla and South African Martin Scherzinger
- ¡Zarzuelas y Tonadillas! An exploration of
musical styles on a Spanish theme (Zanne Stapelberg and James Grace)
- An entertaining dinner concert production
featuring
the combined talents of the ensemble – Gypsy and Tango in Vienna
