A CELEBRATION OF BOOKS & WRITING
ABOUT
THIS INAUGURAL three-day Festival is intended to foster a vibrant culture of reading by bringing together a group of excellent, approachable writers, a famous publisher and one of the world’s most acclaimed wine experts to talk to readers at informal gatherings in the Franschhoek village centre.
Our ultimate goal is to support the drive for a new community library by creating a buzz about books.
Starting small, we aim to make this an exciting annual event that grows into an important celebration of books and writing.
Our aims are: to appreciate and encourage writers and writing at informal events in a village setting, to foster a vibrant culture of reading, and to raise funds for community and school libraries funds in our valley so that appropriate books are available in local languages to all.
The next FLF is being planned for 14 – 16 May 2010, and seats should be reserved in good time for what is becoming one of SA’s prime book events.
2007 Festival Wrap-Up
The first Franschhoek Literary Festival in early May drew an estimated 2 000 readers. Readers, writers, media and book clubs strolled through the village interacting with 30 authors, poets and publishers in lively informal discussions, signings, fundraisers, talks, breakfasts, dinners and over drinks.
2008 Festival wrap-up
‘Bigger and better,’ people are saying of the second Franschhoek Literary Festival, which took place over the weekend 16 – 18 May. The village buzzed with writers, festival-goers, publishers, booksellers, book agents and musicians during three days of discussions and debates, insights into writers’ lives and problems, spoken poetry, impassioned outbursts, storytelling, singing, glorious music and laughter.
